The Good Life is a band/concept founded by Scott Amendola to perform the music of Ornette Coleman. As the concept evolved, the band started including music of it's own, and music somewhat related to Ornette's. The band name was taken from Ornette's song, "The Good Life", off of the Pat Metheny/Ornette Coleman record "Song X". Scott witnessed this band live in 1987, a "life changing" event, as Amendola states.
Fast forward to 2009, we find John, Nels, Ben, Trevor, and Scott at 21Grand, a musical art space in Oakland, California, performing together as The Good Life. Fortunately, avid fan and archivist/taper Michael Zelner was in the house to capture this captivating set. John stumbled upon it recently, wrote everyone about releasing it as a benefit album, and then we found ourselves in the surreal 2020 pandemic.
It is overwhelming what is going on and how so many are struggling to make it through. We decided to donate all the proceeds to The Food Bank in NYC after seeing how hard hit New York is, and how some can't even put food on the table.
With love, respect, and hope, we offer this to you. 100% of the proceeds will go to Food Bank, so please pay what you can.
Thanks for listening. We all can't wait to see you out there in a room together, doing what we love to do.
With Love,
Scott, John, Nels, Ben, & Trevor
